From my perspective, Halloween was a bit of a bust this year. I didn't get home from work til nearly 8, so most of the evening's fun was already history. Thanks mostly to Dan, the two jack-o-lanterns we managed to carve this year were lit and on the porch, there was candy for the myriad trick or treaters that were still roaming the streets, and all the spooks who live at this house came home with scads and scads of candy. So it was a successful Halloween, it just happened without me, which made me sad.
I didn't get to do Audrey's make up, or braid Olivia's hair, or take my signature million pictures.
These are the only two pictures I snapped last night, after she was home from trick or treating.
So tonight, we are having a do-over, sans trick or treaters of course. Miss Livvi is dressed in her Dorothy costume once again, we are watching the Wizard of Oz, and making chili. Audrey is busy carving the final pumpkin that got ignored in the hubub of yesterday. She is going to make it a deathly hallows symbol, and when it gets dark tonight, we are going to light them all again and take some pictures. Who says you can only celebrate Halloween for one night anyway? I can see this becoming an All Saints Day tradition around here. Since Dan's birthday is tomorrow, we might as well have three solid days of revelry, don't you think?
The spirits of the dead are supposed to be closer to earth on this day than any other day of the year. I wish that were true, because there are a few of them I would like to talk to. A few days ago, the sweetest little lady came into the pharmacy. The way she talked and the things she said, and the way her hands looked reminded me so much of my grandma. The resemblance was so strong that after she left I had to go hide in the bathroom and cry for a few minutes. I'd love to have a visit with my grandma today. Come to think of it, I'd like to have both of my grandmas come visit tonight. I miss having grandmas. I bet they could set me straight on a few things too.
