Contests and Bathtime and Costumes, Oh My!

Audrey won the Red Ribbon Week poster contest at school! A $10 gift card, some chocolate, and the admiration of her peers...what more could any sixth grader ask for?  I need to get a better picture of the poster-it has some great artwork at the bottom that doesn't really show in this shot. She's amazing, that one.
This was the view from my bed last night.  Olivia was enjoying a bath in the big tub, and Belle decided to get in on the fun.  Belle is one weird cat.  She loves to be in the bathroom whenever somebody is in the bath tub.  She has a love-hate relationship with water.  She finds is fascinated and phobic at the same time.

After the bath it was story time. Last year's fears about Olivia and her reading abilities are quickly diminishing.  She is learning to read at an amazing rate.  She is sounding out words like a pro, and LOVES to read and write now.  I'm blaming her teacher.

Cute girl is so proud that she read the whole book!

And now Halloween is upon us, and the costumes are coming together nicely.  This year, we have a deranged Easter bunny, a used Barbie, and  Dorothy. I can't believe I am down to only three trick or treaters.  I have mixed feelings about that- on the one hand, I'm sad.  On the other hand, I'm old, And tired.

Scary!
Audrey at first was going to be a Barbie, but then she got the brilliant idea to be a used Barbie, with messed up hair, torn dress, one earring, no shoes, and magic marker smeared on her face. The way Barbies look after they come out of the box.  We tried false eyelashes, but she couldn't stand them so we just caked on the mascara.  I was truly missing Alisa tonight when I was fixing Audrey up.  She would have been much better at the hair and makeup thing than I am.  I didn't even have any lipstick for her!  I did not inherit my daughter's talent for fashion, that's for sure.
Tonight was the ward trunk or treat, and Dorothy threw a fit about wearing her red shoes, as in she was absolutely refusing to.  Being the one who drove all over town looking for the darn things, I was not about to let her get away with not wearing them.  It turns out she was worried about ruining them.  She was in tears over the thought of something happening to them before she got to go trick or treating in them.  But then I found a perfect basket for her Toto, and she forgot about being worried about the shoes.  And then, I forgot to get a picture of Toto in the basket. Darn it!  Good thing we still have Monday.
