Hey wait a minute....weren't we just carving pumpkins and handing out Milky Way bars to trick or treaters???? Did we even have Thanksgiving?? How did it get to be three days before Christmas?? It's all just a blur. If only the dishes and laundry would go on Christmas break. It would be ever so much easier to get everything done.
The kids are ready. They are hanging out under the tree with the presents, counting and shaking. They are sick of shopping. They devour every treat the neighbors bring over as soon as it walks in the door. Last night we were in great need of a diversion, so we headed up to Ogden to check out this Christmas village my neighbor told me about. Wow! How did I live in Utah all my life and never visit the Ogden Christmas village? It is set up all around the grounds of the Ogden city building. There are a whole bunch of little Christmas houses set up with scenes inside that you can peek in on. A lot of them are replicas of historic Ogden buildings, which sadly didn't mean a whole lot to us, as we are completely unfamiliar with Ogden, but it was cool nonetheless. There is a nativity scene, and Santa Claus and millions of Christmas lights, and the whole thing is free, except for the $1 hot chocolate you can buy to benefit a charity. It was just like a scene out of the little town in A Christmas story, and we will definitely be going back next year. Olivia loved the whole experience- I never realized that we have never taken her to see a big display of Christmas lights- she was amazed, and the older kids thought it was pretty cool too. Some of the displays have been around since the '60's, and use those old fashioned animated dolls, so it was a bit of walk down Christmas memory lane for Dan and me. And the best part of it was that nobody was there trying to sell you anything.
