Taste of Summer

In a perfect world, a perfect mom would not start working full time the same week the kiddos start summer vacation. But in our world, that is what happened this year. It is only a temporary crunch time for me, which ordinarily I wouldn't mind, because I love my job and I love my boss. But all of this converged with my folks leaving the valley, and school ending, and it has been an interesting new adventure, to put a positive spin on it.

So, that is why yesterday was the first chance we have had to do anything even slightly summer-like, and yes, my mother-guilt is in full swing. But yesterday was fun.

We rode bikes to the park, played at the playground for a while, and when that got too hot, we headed over to the shady spot where the sand pit is. It poured rain the night before, so the sand was perfect for building. Audrey and Olivia started in on their sandcastle creation.

Such intense concentration!

Duncan's contribution was a large stick, to top off the castle. He is not into sand. Way too intense of a gritty sensory experience for his taste.
Complete!

A stop at the snow cone shack finished off our day. For the first snow cone of the season, Duncan got a rootbeer and blue bubble gum combo, Audrey had tigers blood, watermelon, and blueberry, and Livvi was happy with pink. I think it was watermelon. Will was staying with Grandma and Grandpa in Salt Lake, so we missed him.
Here's hoping my crazy work schedule resolves itself before August, so we can have more than a few more lazy days like this!
