Today we learned that taking down a swimming pool is tons more work than putting one up, especially if you have ignored it for the past week and smelly green algae has begun to grow in the water. I had Olivia helping me, and of course she had to climb into the nearly empty pool and go wading. Well, the bottom of the pool was slick with green stuff, and she promptly fell into this smelly, mossy, green water. She stood right up and pulled all her wet clothes off. Then Maggie had to roll in the dead, wet grass from where the pool sat all summer, because she likes to smell like dead stuff. So that was my night, standing in ankle deep algae water with a smelly dog and a naked child. I'm surprised Ed McMahon didn't show up with the TV cameras and my million dollar check. The pool is still in a wet heap in the backyard, while I debate if it is worth all the work it will take to clean it inside and out, dry it, and pack it all away for next year. We definitely got our money's worth out of it this year.
The pool is down, weeds have taken over my poor neglected, unwatered garden, (which is nevertheless producing tomatos and green beans like crazy), and I put my down comforter back on my bed. Guess this summer is pretty much wrapped up.
Tomorrow is Mitch's birthday and with any luck, he will be home to eat cake with us. He is on a bus from San Diego at this moment. I spoke with him tonight and he sounded okay. I am a little wary of what the next few days will hold.
