Small Favors

Between our passel of kids, Dan's constant goings-on with his job, and having a son in boot camp, we have been on a real roller coaster the past few weeks. Things have been pretty tough for Mitch lately, and so, of course, they have been pretty tough for us as well, as we worry and sweat over him and what we imagine he is going through. Okay, it has been worse than pretty tough. It has been downright rotten at times. But through the past few days, we have been so aware of the fact that we are being watched over in so many different ways, and so many people have impacted our lives in sometimes small but very meaningful ways. From the co-worker who offered Dan her sky miles to us, to the wonderful missionary couple at the MCRD who checked in on Mitch for me, to the peaceful feeling we have felt in our hearts through all the ups and downs, we have been blessed in so many little ways to know that when life gets rough, people step in to help God take care of us. Today was a really crappy day, but I am going to sleep well tonight knowing that prayers are answered, and that God really is in charge, even when we doubt, when we can't understand why, and even when things seem like they are going all wrong.

Boot camp News: Today was day 15. After a long and worrisome weekend, we got a phone call tonight, and I am happy to report that Mitch is doing WELL! He still has a long road ahead of him, but he sounded strong and determined and has made some good connections with his drill instructor. He has only gotten ONE letter. Hopefully mail will start reaching him soon. Thank you, drill instructor for letting him call home!
