New Pants! New Pants!

Well, we did it! We made it through the first day of school. So far so good. Nobody's new pants got made fun of, and I think Alisa actually WORE new pants. (nobody but Dan, me and possibly some of his very old friends will get that joke!) Everyone loves their teachers, were happy to see old friends, and excited for homework(that part won't last!) I went in with them this morning to make sure Duncan got situated. The routine is that the whole school meets together in the gym for what they call morning greeting- they sing the Star Spangled Banner, say the pledge, and get all the announcements for the day. As they were dismissing to go to class, the song Put on a Happy Face was blaring through the speakers. I thought it was kind of a brilliant choice for the first day, and seemed to cheer everybody up.
And may I just say thank heavens for Mrs. Provost. She is Duncan's special ed teacher and has him for all the core subjects. She is amazing. She called a few days before school started to let us know that Duncan would have a new aide this year and to make arrangements for him to meet her before school started. She was at back to school night, and literally welcomed Duncan back with open arms. She is funny, warm, friendly, everything a teacher should be, and I just can't say enough good things about her. There are lots of people at that school that go out of their way to ease Duncan's way, like the secretary who called a few days ago to assign Duncan his same old locker that he has had since 6th grade, just so there would be one less change for him, and one less line for him to stand in at back to school. I hope they all know how much of a difference all those little things make for Duncan. Small favors again! Will has the same 5th grade teacher that Duncan had, and she is wonderful as well. Audrey's teacher is new to the school this year, so we don't know what to think of her yet, but so far, so good.

Boot camp news: Day 16. Got three very depressing letter in the mail today. It is good I was able to talk to him last night and hear that he is doing better; otherwise I would be distraught!

That is awesome! I am so gald that Duncan's school year is starting off on the right path. I wish that I could say the same for Connor. I am NOT having warm fuzzies about this school. I went in to meet with the Sp.Ed dept and they had no clue about anything....they haven't even met their "new" head of their dept. or look at any of the files on the kids that will be there. Can you say Yikes? Maybe I should move there and live with you guys so Connor can stop having his time being wasted.
