Goodbye Summer Break

We finally got around to vaccuuming the Disneyland remnants and Laguna beach sand out of the old 'burb today. Guess that means we are preparing to kiss summer vacation 2008 goodbye forever. I know that equinoxically speaking, summer lasts for another month, but the kids start school on Wednesday, and after that first day of school, it just never feels like summer anymore. Summer means staying up late, eating when, where and what you want, absolutely no structure, and getting dressed when you feel like it. Boy are we dreading the thoughts of early mornings, lunches, having to bathe, and homework. We have been thinking about launching our own personal little protest over school starting too darn early in the year, and not sending anybody back to school until after Labor Day, but when it comes right down to it, as much as they hate to go back, they would hate even more to miss the excitement of the First Day(speaking only for Duncan, Will and Audrey: Alisa is another story). Plus, they would have a load of homework. So, we will more than likely pull ourselves together over the next few days, start going to bed at some semblance of a sane hour, and soldier on through to the start of the new school year. Anyway, the sooner we start the school year, the sooner Mitch will be through with boot camp. Which leads us to.....
Boot Camp News: We got our form letter from Mitch, and another form letter from his drill instructor, assuring us that he will be making sure our young man puts forth his maximum effort during his training, and that shared hardship will build a sense of teamwork. There was also something in there about leadership and caring concern. Something about that is less than reassuring. He is scheduled to graduate 11 weeks from yesterday. Time is ticking....
