Last night we dropped off Will and Audrey at Camp Roger, a YMCA camp in the Uintah mountains, for their week-long stay there. I REALLY hope they have some fun times there. Mitch and Alisa always had a pretty good time. It was kind of hard to leave them....Will got hit in the head with a sock and was the first one out in some game they were playing, just as we were walking away. I am sure he recovered pretty quickly and hasn't given it a second thought, but that image was not a good one for his mom to leave with. I wish there was a way I could be a fly on the wall and just spy on them and see what they are doing and HOW they are doing. Its funny because Mitch and Alisa both went to this camp at the same ages Will and Audrey are now, but Will and Audrey still seem like my babies. Mitch and Alisa seemed like really big kids when they went....
On the Duncan front, we (I) are (am) considering starting him on the gluten free diet that is supposed to help kids with autism. I am really skeptical of it, as is Duncan's autism-specialist doctor, Dr. O'dell. Then again, I am ready to try anything that might help a little bit. Since school has been out, he has been very much a loner, not wanting to do anything except play his video games for hours on end. When we encourage (make) him do other things, he gets very agitated and frustrated. And since I have been working more the past week, there has not been anybody around that has the gumption or the heart to keep him off the games for very long. I know when school starts, it is going to be a big withdrawal for him, and I worry about him getting too addicted to them. He needs some kind of change, I am just not sure what to do for him at this point. He sure is a great kid though. He is the one who is always willing to help out, never complains about chores, and will do whatever I ask him, generally the first time I ask him, unless of course he is playing a video game. Then he doesn't even hear me.
