We were sitting on our front porch this evening, enjoying the nice summer air, when Audrey noticed that our cat Buck, who was lounging on the porch with us, had something in his mouth. It was a fat, gray, dead mouse. Buck was dozing comfortably, right next to us, with this dead mouse between his jaws. Then, as we watched, he woke up, dropped the mouse from his mouth, swatted it around a few more times, then proceeded to devour the entire mouse in a matter of a few moments. Olivia went over to investigate closer, but I could not bring myself to look, I only heard some quiet crunching. I thought he would leave some remains for me to clean up, but no, it was gone, without a trace. Nature can be nauseating.
Later on, Olivia and I were reading Goodnight Moon. When we came to the part about Goodnight mouse, she said, " Cats will eat a mouse." She probably won't forget that little fact anytime soon....
