Our Scholar

Wow, Alisa got a 4 (FOUR!!!!) on her AP American History test. If you are not familiar with AP scoring, that is pretty darn good, as a 5 is the best you can get. At one point during the year, she actually dropped the class because she thought it was too much work and she was worried about being able to pass the test at all. After dropping, she reconsidered and readded the class and stuck it out. And now I think she is glad she did, even though it was a boatload of extra work. So now she has already started to accumulate college credit. She has also taken a couple of concurrent enrollment classes that give her college credit too, so she is on her way. She has decided to take it easier this year though, and just have some fun her senior year and this is okay with me. I think kids push themselves (or are pushed) waaaay too much these days. There is so much pressure in high school to get a bunch of college credit under your belt, and sure it is a bargain financially, but there are strings attached to it that the counselors sometimes don't explain to you fully, and then, what exactly is the point of getting college half way out of the way when you are still in high school? You get to graduate early, big deal. Most of the kids I have talked to who spent their high school years going to college, get to college and realize they don't know what they want to do anyway, and spend another couple years there anyway, trying to figure out the rest of their lives. I want Alisa to enjoy high school and have the high school experience, and then enjoy college and have the whole starving student college experience too. No sense rushing through it all. I am really really proud of her for doing so well on the test, and for sticking it out in the class. I think she learned a lot, and honestly, I think that class was harder than anything I took in college. She is a smart girl, and she is going to do well, no matter how fast she moves through the system. Hard to believe she is a senior. Time sure flies.

Next week Will and Audrey will be at Camp Roger. Seems like last year that Mitch and Alisa were 9 and 10 and going off for their week at camp.
