Okay, so it's been a while for me to type a few random thoughts, but I have a pretty good excuse; mostly, working straight through the weekend, including Sunday. I worked a Utah Blaze game (arena football) for Time Warner sports out of Kansas City on Saturday, and I had a movie to review for my web site, so I took Will with me to SLC on Friday. It was great having him around, although I'm pretty sure he was bored most of the time. I took him to see the Speed Racer screening, six days before its release (you'll have to wait for my review) on Saturday morning, then took him across the street to the EnergySolutions Arena where the Utah Blaze play (and where the Utah Jazz had eliminated the Rockets the night before) and he got a press pass and got to see what I do when I'm away most weekends. I don't know if he liked it much, but it was great having him around. Arena Football didn't do too much for him either. he mostly playe dhis Nintendo DS during the game, which the Blaze won (their first of the year) I wish I could take a family member with me every time I do freelance work on the weekends.
Sunday, however, was not freelance work. It was a Power Point project for my boss that had to be done no later than Tuesday, because the new managers of the corporation that bought our TV station were coming to town, and he wanted to be prepared to show them we are not stupid and lazy at ABC 4, but victims of a thousand bad ideas from our previous managers. After three days and nights of work, it turns out the Power Point presentation was never seen, but was just a good exercise in knowing all the reasons we need more personnel, payroll, and equipment at ABC 4. Maybe we'll show it off at our next individual family reunions. With the extra work, I was forced to do my regular work late into the nights and early mornings for most of the week, turning in 16-18 hour days. By Thursday, I was beat. I made it home to Logan by 6:00 p.m. and today I felt like I needed 8 more hours of sleep.
Tomorrow, I will climb into our little Geo Metro and travel back to Salt Lake to work an MLS Real Salt Lake soccer game for a fox cable channel in Dallas. Sunday is Mother's Day, so I took the kids out to the store to get that taken care of (sorry Lynne, you will have to wait for the surprises). Another crazy ending to a too-long week.
