As far as I can tell, our two college kids both survived their first day of classes. Alisa is a SENIOR. Gulp. In college. Double gulp. That went fast. Mitch is a sophomore, and even though he would disagree, I am pretty sure that his college days will go equally as fast. Since neither of them live at home now, I only got text updates and a phone call, but it was enough to know that they were both still alive. Both still standing after the crushing boulder of the first day of class descended upon their shoulders. And on top of that, they are both in the midst of starting new jobs. Brave new worlds for them both.
As for me and the other kids, we are just pretending that school is not really happening next week. We are in big time denial. I am especially in denial about how much money I just threw into the coffers of the local school district to pay for their school fees. I am in denial that those three shirts I bought for the boys today could possibly be classified as back to school clothes. They were just on clearance at Walmart. I was NOT thinking about school when I bought them, not at all. They are growing boys after all. They need new shirts once in a while, no matter where they may or may not be going next week. And mostly I am in denial that a certain young man is going to be a SENIOR in high school this year. That makes two seniors in the family this year. Probably the next time there are two seniors around here, it will be me and Dan.
