Disclosures

My hand is tired.  From printing and signing my name and the date 18 times.  That's right, 18 different disclosure forms to sign today.  2 kids in secondary schools = 8 teachers a piece + two more kids with one teacher each in elementary, each one of which feels it necessary, or perhaps is required to, send home a 2 page list, single spaced, of instructions and requirements for their class.  I as the parent am supposed to read all this stuff then sign my name that I am aware of whatever it is they want me to be aware of.  I think I used to read all of this stuff, back in the days of Mitch and Alisa's public ed careers. It took a couple years,  but eventually I  figured out that it all says basically the same stuff, and I will never remember any of it anyway.  So now I just sign. And sign. And sign.   I think tonight I gave permission for both the boys to talk about embarrassing stuff  in health ed, I promised to slap them upside the head if they use the Internet at school to look at porn, and I swore on my right kidney that I understand that if they slack off the first 8 weeks of the semester, they may not be able to pull an A at the last minute.  I also promised not to complain to the teacher about anything, BUT I now feel comfortable contacting all of the teachers with any questions or concerns I may have.  I was reassured so nicely about that last one, and so many times.

Mostly I do love teachers.   We have had some great ones. Audrey is already in love with her new teacher.  She has gum days AND a treasure box.  And rumor has it that Olivia's teacher is the most coveted first grade teacher in the school.  A few of my neighbors have already expressed their envy over the fact that Olivia lucked out and got her.  I have learned not to always believe the hype though,  so we shall see.   I have a feeling that Olivia's teacher and I may get to know each other really well this year.....
