The Last Day

Life as I know it is about to end.

In fact, it pretty much already has.

And there is nothing I can do about it.

The last day of school is fast approaching. And then, all bets are off. It's a whole new ball game after that. The house crumbles around us, bedtimes fall by the wayside, insanity ensues.

The high school is supposed to be in session until Friday, but Duncan declared his last day to be yesterday. And I agreed with him. Books have all been turned in, yearbooks distributed and there is nothing at all going on. And Duncan doesn't do well without some structure. I dropped him off at school yesterday at 7:30. It was yearbook day-no classes, just hanging out in the halls signing yearbooks. He called me two hours later, and was ready to go. Three people and a teacher had signed his yearbook. What can I say? He is not a social animal. And autism sucks.

So anyway, Duncan is home today. But even with him here, I am still counting this as my last day of sanity for the next 3 months. The other kids have school until tomorrow, but I am working tomorrow, which means today is pretty much it for me. After today, I will not have a moment's peace until late August. So I am debating how to spend my few remaining hours. Watching Rachael Ray? Doing laundry? Tracking down that nasty smell in the kitchen? Oh, the possibilities are endless.

Look out summer, here we come.
