Today was a bathroom-finishing, bill-paying, candy-shopping, doctor-seeing, concert-attending, muffin-baking, pie-eating, costume-assembling, mirror hanging kind of day. The kind of day I will miss when all the needy and growing creatures that hang around here filling up my life and my time have launched themselves into their own spaces. Also the kind of day that I would really like to squeeze a little tub-soaking, book-reading, chocolate-eating and nap-taking into. But what I should really be trying to squeeze in to this day is a little more bedtime-tucking, fairy tale-reading, joke-telling, game-playing, make-believing, conversation-having, and advice-giving. The toilet-scrubbing, sock-folding, floor-mopping and closet-organizing can definitely wait.
Tomorrow will be Halloween in it's full dress black and orange. Yes, tomorrow is only October 28, but tomorrow are Halloween parties at school, and at a friend's house. Costumes need to be DONE by tomorrow. Pumpkins are getting gutted tomorrow. Friday is trunk-er-treating and a costume party at church. Then Saturday is D-Day, or T-Day, I guess we should call it, with big plans for pillow cases full of candy by the end of the night. When, exactly, did Halloween become a three day event? Is Halloween now considered one of "The Holidays"? Can we just take Christmas vacation starting October 31, and resume normal life around the 15th of January?
