In Search of Summer
Here we are on the 8th of July and it already feels like the lost summer. Our days of hanging out doing nothing have been few and far between, and even when we do have one of those days, it just doesn't feel the same. Yesterday the kids and I took off in search of a summer adventure, and even though we did some research on where to go and what to do, we met with failure at every turn. We started out searching for a hike to a waterfall in Farmington somewhere. We found the right road, but took the wrong turn, and got scared off when the road got too darn steep. Then we wound up at the Centerville Walmart, where Olivia threw a big fit over the green shoes I wanted to buy her, and an even bigger fit when we left the store without the shoes. As soon as she found out she wasn't getting them, she suddenly decided she loved them and couldn't live without them. Then we went in search of the bird refuge, which we found, and which was not as good as a hike to a waterfall, but we made the best of it. And we made excellent use of the bathrooms- in our hour there, we made seven separate trips. Two of us went twice. That is an amazingly high percentage of toilet usage. The relatives are coming to town next week, though, and I took the whole week off, so our hopes are high that we can get in some good old summertime during those days. I am ready to throw off my shoes, and sit in the shade sipping lemonade while the kids run through the sprinklers.
