Planted

Our Memorial Day weekend was not that memorable, but it was productive. We cleaned out the garage and then cleaned out the shed. Then we found mouse poop in the shed. All over the shed. And a cute little hole chewed in the side of the wall. Yes, we have mice in our shed. MICE. Which begs the question: Why do we have three CATS? Is not the one advantage of having cats that they keep the mice at bay? Do our cats have no more self respect than to let a whole barrage of mice just run amok in our shed? Big changes coming to the lives of our cats, I'm afraid. Big, big changes.

I took advantage of the sun (!!!the sun! who knew!!!) and introduced myself to my new flower beds, who, it appears, have not been in a relationship with a human being for several years. They are overrun in a bad way, with grass and weeds, and bushes that are too big. So now we, the flower beds and I, have a standing Saturday morning date for the rest of the summer. We will see how far we get in taming them again. We also found a little spot for a few tomato plants, which made me happy. What made Dan happy was getting a new gas powered trimmer, the kind that you can attach other ends to, and it converts into an edger, or a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember, because power tools do not excite me like they do the male species. He had a good time revving it up and trimming everything all over the yard. He better like it, because he has promised to put it to good use, and not let it rot in the garage, like certain other yard care equipment we have had over the years.

It's a little annoying to admit we have reached the stage in life where tomato plants and lawn trimmers bring us so much happiness. It's disconcerting to think how fast I got to the point where my first choice of activities on Friday night usually involves a remote control and a bowl of ice cream. It's not that I don't want any more adventures. It just takes more to impress me than it used to. Most goings-on in the greater Salt Lake area, we have either already done, or are morally opposed to. And if I am going to go to the trouble of getting out of the house, it darn well better be worth my time. Not to mention that the things that I really want to do now mostly involve more time and money than I currently have. We are stuck at that stage in life where our garbage can overflows much quicker than our bank account. Which kind of works out great, because it keeps us home, with our little quiver, which is still quite full of children. And tomato plants. And grass that needs to be trimmed. And flower beds, and rotten cats, and mice...
