Even though I still don't really believe it, it is beginning to appear as though we really will be moving from Cache Valley. That idea probably should have sunk through my thick skull before now. I mean, we bought a house. We have spent a fair amount of money having that house inspected and appraised, and we have spent a fair amount of time in getting a loan approved. But only now that we are talking about things like closing dates and moving vans is it really sinking in that we aren't going to live here anymore. And the more I think about it, the more I don't want to move. If I had my way, I think I would stay here the rest of my life. Even though we are getting a bigger, nicer house, and even though I get to retire from being a semi-single mom, I still don't want to leave. This has been home for 12 years, and in spite of the insanity of the past 4 years, we are pretty happy here.
Still, you don't get everything the way you want it. So I am trying to think of all the things about living in the far north that I won't miss. It's a short list so far, but it's a work in progress. Here goes:
- I am not going to miss the 3-inch-thick sheet of ice that my front lawn becomes every January.
-I am not going to miss anything about the month of January in Cache Valley. That is the one month of the year when I really wonder why we live here. It is probably no coincidence that we finalized our plans to move in the month of January.
- I am not going to miss my driveway. It slopes weird at the end of it, and all the water in the neighborhood seems to accumulate there.
-I am not going to miss Logan's finest. The cops around here are the most annoying I have ever encountered. No, I have not had a lot of run-ins with the police, but the ones I have had are not pleasant. Think power hungry 4th grade hall monitor.
-I won't miss my next door neighbor, or the 4 inch strip of grass between his property line and my driveway that he refuses to mow.
-I won't miss the regular water line breaks in front of our house. Even though the maintenance guys were nice and brought us bottled water when they had to turn ours off.
-I won't miss the Valley Channel. Or Jenny Christensen.
-I wont miss our mall.
-I won't miss having a canyon between us and the rest of my loved ones.
I sure hope we are doing the right thing.
