School pictures: too expensive, or priceless?? That has been the debate raging in my brain over the past week.
On the one hand, why would I pay money for an overpriced package of pictures that I don't even get to see first? And what exactly, do you do with 36 mini portraits anyway?
On the other hand, it is a school fundraiser. And it is a shot of your kid that will never be captured again. And if you don't buy school pictures, everybody will think you don't love your kids that much.
But I already have one MILLION pictures of my kids. Their whole lives are documented in pictures. We snap pictures of them every few days.
Then again, it's tradition. School starts, you get your picture taken, and forever after, that is how you remember yourself looking that year. Whenever I think about 4th grade, I picture myself wearing the blue gingham checked shirt I had my picture taken in that year. How can I deny my kids those kinds of memories?
So the debate has gone in my head, all week long. Until tonight, when the kids reminded me that picture make-up day was today. And we missed it. Blew it off. Completely forgot. The fates transpired against us. There will be no school pictures this year. Except for Duncan, because the high school is smart enough to take pictures the day you pick up your schedule and get your locker. For a much more reasonable price I might add. Next year, I think I will just take everybody over there for pictures. I wonder if they do group shots.
