I Heart Nice People and AutoZone

Sick kid. Work drama. Money troubles. Facebook malfunctions. Football season. Exploding strawberry soda all over my kitchen.

It all adds up to one crappy Friday. So, in my ongoing attempt to view the glass as half full, here is a story of something good that happened yesterday. Maybe I can cheer myself up.

My car battery died, which was a bad thing.

But the good part was that it died at the kid's school, where help was readily available.

And the even better part is that our friend Ron, who is a bit of a mechanic, just happened to be there, picking up his kids. He not only offered to give my battery a jump start, he also pushed my Suburban down the side of the road to make room for him to pull his car in front of mine. He checked out everything to make sure it was the battery, and even checked my transmission fluid for me when I told him about the car trouble we had been having lately. Our transmission fluid will be a tragic and expensive story for another day, but for today, the car started up just fine after the jump.

I coerced the kids off the playground (they were indecently giddy that we had car trouble, because that meant they got to stay and play longer with friends), and we headed straight to AutoZone The AutoZone guy, whose name was Jay, checked the alternator, which was fine, then checked the battery, which was not fine. He suggested that we think about replacing it soon. I just happened to mention that it didn't seem that long since we had bought it. So then he offers to check into it and see if we are still in the 2 year warranty period. Turns out we bought that battery from AutoZone in October 2007. Meaning, free battery replacement!! I love free.

But it gets better. Not only free battery replacement, but free installation! Jay brought out his tools and pulled the old battery and put the new one in for me. I don't think Jay will ever really understand how happy he made me, and how much headache he saved me. I think I love Jay.

Auto Zone is my new favorite business. No receipt required, no questions asked, no hassle, just a free new battery and I am on my way. Why can't all businesses do it like that? When I complained about stupid Comcast on my blog, I got comments from the Comcast people telling me how sorry they were. So I hope the AutoZone guys see this, because they are AWESOME! If any AutoZone guys read this, thank you so much and love you!! And Jay at the Logan AutoZone is way nice and helpful! I wish AutoZone sold cell phones.
