Duncan brought a friend home from school today. Such a common occurrence for most kids, but for Duncan, it feels like a major accomplishment. It is a rare and happy occasion when he goes out of his way to invite somebody new into his little inner circle of family and neighborhood friends. Sure, they played video games all afternoon, but they played together, and talked and had a good time. I have worried and wondered about my sweet boy, and how it will be for him, the teenager years mixed with the autism. Days like today give me hope, that when he really wants a friend, he can find one.
On the flip side, Duncan's friend didn't bother to tell his mother that he was coming home with Duncan. When he finally called her around 8pm, she was a little freaked out, to say the least. Not as freaked out as I would have been, ( I would have had the cops out looking for him) but still kind of skittish. I felt bad about that, but it's not my fault her kid is a bit of a ditz.
