Will is 14.
Will is 14.
Will is FOURTEEN.
Gah.
I hope that if I keep repeating it to myself I will eventually come to accept it.
Will is not supposed to be 14. He is my baby boy. My youngest son. One of the little kids in the family. He was the last kid to wear all the little boy clothes I saved through the years. When he grew out of them, they were given away to loving homes with littler boys. Now that all the boys in this family are approximately the same size, the whole hand-me-down thing has gone out the window. Now days I just buy 30x32 sized jeans whenever I see them on sale, and hope that somebody will wear them.
But back to the topic of the day: Will and his turning 14. Its a good thing he is turning out to be such an awesome kid. Otherwise, I would not be okay with this whole growing up thing. But he is awesome. And here are some reasons why:
-he makes funny, imaginative cards for people's birthdays and other occasions. A highlight of birthdays is looking forward to getting one of Will's cards. For example, for Duncan's birthday this year, Will drew a whole little sequence of video game characters happily dancing around in celebration of Duncan's birthday, except the bad guy was just standing there. The caption says " Goran was not amused."
-He won his class spelling bee this year and got to be in the school spelling bee. He got out on the word PROTAGONIST. He knew how to spell it. The pressure just got to him. So we took him out for pecan pie to celebrate anyway..
-He knows when I'm in a bad mood and does nice things to cheer me up.
-He knows what the word googolplex means. I didn't even know it was a real word.
-He is a groovy dancer
-After he showers in the morning, he runs upstairs singing or whistling and busting at the seams with energy.
-He's a hugger.
-His favorite t-shirt has a picture of a big bear on it and says "I support the right to arm bears".
-His eyes are very blue.
He is taller than me. Only barely, and honestly, I don't think this is so awesome. But he does.
