Well, here we are on the first official day of summer vacation, and I must say I never envisioned this day starting off quite so..... early. The little girl that we had to physically dig out of bed every single morning of the school year came bounding into our bedroom at seven this morning, bright eyed, bushy tailed and ready to start the day. She was in the driveway with her 3-D sidewalk chalk by eight.
I dragged myself out of bed around 7:30 to find Duncan, breakfast ingested, fully dressed and sitting at the computer. What the heck??? It's SUMMER people! Sleep in a little bit, for crying out loud!!
The bright side of all of this is that it is a beautiful morning, and once I was conscious, I was glad to be out of bed. I even set the completely whacked and totally unrealistic goal of getting up early every morning this summer. Honestly, probably not gonna happen. But it was nice to be up and at 'em THIS morning.
We have Alicia staying with us for a few nights. In the middle of the night, Alicia decided it would be a good idea to color on Audrey's face while she was sleeping. And Audrey of course returned the favor this morning.
These two have been best buddies since they were babies. They are less than a year apart in age, and on opposite ends of the height spectrum, but in every other way they are exactly alike.
Poor old Maggie.
She is 13 now, deaf and arthritic, but she is hanging in there for now. I was feeling nostalgic and thinking about how much longer we might have her, so I tried to get a decent shot of her, but she is such a sap, it's hard to do. If you call her name, half the time she doesn't hear you. The other half of the time, she gets up and comes over to pant and drool on you and stand on your lap. She just doesn't get the concept of portraits. She's a good dog though. Except for the dog hair. And the dog poop. And the barking. And the whining, panting and drooling during thunderstorms. Other than all that, she's a dream.
