Olivia tells me I look like I could use some more beauty sleep. Which is ironic, since SHE is the reason that nobody who sleeps upstairs at our house has gotten much sleep over the past few nights. She can't seem to get rid of this nasty bug she picked up, and has not slept well at all lately.
Right now we are sitting on the couch watching Sesame Street. She is yelling at the TV, really quite annoyed that Telly and Baby Bear can't find that firefly that is RIGHT ABOVE THEIR HEADS! Funny girl. She and I have spent the better part of the past three days hanging out together on the couch. I am soaking up the fact that she still wants me to hold her when she is sick. It's a great excuse to not do much of anything, and one that I won't have for too much longer.
So the ongoing debate around here is when do you take a sick kid into the doctor to get checked out? I say wait about 5 days. Dan says wait about 5 minutes. Then he gets annoyed at me for not getting her in to get checked out. Because it could be pneumonia after all. And I get annoyed at him for being a hypochondriac. And, if you go to the doctor and sit in the waiting room with all the sickos and crazies who KNOWS what you will pick up in there? Probably strep. Then you will wish you had stayed home. Then your doctor will prescribe something stupid, like Cheratussin, which has two drugs in it, one that make you cough more and one that makes you cough less. What the??? But you feel obligated to fill it, since you spent your copay money to have the doctor tell you it looks viral and you better come back in a week if you don't get better. And THEN, you will have to come back in a week anyway, because by that time the strep will have developed and you really will be sick.
On the other hand, kids have a knack for getting really really sick on Friday nights. And there you sit at 11:45 pm on a Friday with a lethargic kid who has a temp of 105, and you are wondering if it is worth a trip to the ER, and you are kicking yourself for not getting into the doctor earlier, like your husband told you to do.
There is just no winning with sick kids.
Oh! But Telly and Baby Bear caught that firefly! But now they are worried because it looks sad. The plot is thickening here....I better go.
