Party at the Metcalf's this weekend!! It's an all-night, (non) sleepover, video gamefest in honor of Will's golden birthday, turning 13 on the 13th yesterday!!!!
Really? Is that even in the realm of possibility that my FOURTH child, my littlest boy, is a teenager? He was just turning seven, like last WEEK. What the heck is up with that??? This also means we once again have three teenagers in the family. At least until April, when Alisa turns 20, which is a topic that opens up whole other worlds of impossibilities to ponder.....
But. Back to the birthday boy. As usual, and without really intending to, we wound up celebrating for three days. We always promise ourselves that the birthday will be a quiet little family oriented celebration, with a few presents and a few friends. And it always seems to spiral out of our control and into some big old swinging from the chandeliers kind of thing. But come on, you only get one golden birthday in your whole life, right? This one started Wednesday night, with cake and ice cream. Then he was treated to an early out day of school and lunch at Golden Corral with Grandma and Grandpa. THEN, he got taken (got taken? got taken? I believe that is bad grammar....my apologies) out to dinner that evening with Dad, brothers and sisters, and Grandpa Dan in tow. Tonight we are turning over the family room to a gang of teenage boys, with strict instructions to NOT hang the cats from the ceiling fan or draw any blood. Us boring old parent types will be locked in our bedroom with a PG-13 movie and a diet pepsi. Tomorrow, if the mood strikes, we might take the crew out for some laser tag or some other semi-memorable and expensive outing, IF any of them are awake before noon, which is doubtful. Come to think of it, it is doubtful that I will be awake before noon tomorrow, since Olivia is staying at Grandma's house tonight:) Audrey has a full weekend planned as well, with a sleepover tonight with Alicia and another one tomorrow with some other friends from Smithfield.
And there it is. Another exciting Friday night wrap up from the edge. Good night, and good luck.
