Monster Scents

When Olivia woke up this morning, she was absolutely convinced she had seen a dragon outside her window. She jumped out of bed crying and came running to tell me about it. So, being the genius that I am, later on in the day, I decided to pull down her broken, dirty old window blind and throw it in the garbage. I am not talented enough with a drill to install a new one, but figured we could live without a blind on that window for a couple of days til Dan can get home and hang a new one.

I wasn't thinking about that dragon when I did this. When bedtime rolled around, Olivia took one look at that bare black window, and sailed out of her bed and into mine. She insisted there were monsters out that window, and if she looked out there, they would see her. And she could not resist looking, and scaring herself silly every time she did.

We solved the problem with Monster Spray, known to the rest of the world as Febreeze. We doused that old window good with the stuff, and as far as Olivia is concerned, there will be no monsters lurking around our house this night.

I hope she isn't scarred for life now, thinking that monsters must be real if mom actually has spray to keep them at bay. I maybe should have had the monsters-aren't-real talk with her. But it has been a very screechy, high maintenance kind of day at our house. She is not an easy person to convince. I'm tired. And I wanted to sleep in my own bed. With no monsters.
