Farewell to Ruth
I spoke too soon on Thursday night about Audrey's new frog not being dead. We said our final goodbyes to Ruth the Frog on Friday afternoon. Sometimes it's hard to tell with frogs though. Last year at this time we had a miraculous resurrection with Will's frog. Somebody had forgotten about him for a while, and he ran out of water and was all dried out and stiff looking. I found him on Friday, and he sat in there dead and stiff til Saturday morning, when I remembered:) to tell Will that his frog had died. Will felt so sad that he added a little water in there, just to make himself feel better. So I left the frog alone for one more day, thinking it wouldn't hurt anything to let the froggy funeral wait a day or two. But Easter morning (no lie; this really happened on Easter), Will checked on him, and he was alive, and jumping all around, and has been fine ever since. It was our own personal little Easter miracle. It's no wonder then, that we were a little more cautious about officially pronouncing Ruth dead. But by Friday afternoon, we were pretty sure she was a goner. We only had her for a few weeks. I can't figure out what killed her, since she is in the same tank as the other frog, who has thrived in there for a year now. She floated around in the tank until Saturday morning, when Dan finally got around to fishing her out. Audrey didn't want any kind of funeral, so poor Ruth got thrown away in the kitchen trash. Sad, huh? Our pets are slowly dwindling in number. My goal is to not replace them.
