Toothbrush Wars

We are in the midst of another nightly teeth brushing power struggle, the one where I must insist that Liv brushes her teeth, and she is adamant about not doing it. Every other kid in our family has gone through this at one time or another, and every one of them has been wooed to my corner by the sugar bug theory I give them.... Sugar bugs get on your teeth during the day, and if you don't brush your teeth at night, they get bigger and eat away at your teeth all night. It's a good story, because it is based in fact, but calling them "bugs" usually scares the kid enough to want to brush their teeth. It has worked like a charm until tonight.

Tonight I told Olivia that if she didn't brush her teeth, the sugar bugs would eat her teeth away all night while she slept. Without even considering my words, she said, "No they won't".

"Yes they will'" says I. "Let's go brush your teeth."

"No, I don't need to brush my teeth, I can just flap those bugs onto my tongue and then I will swallow them."

The girl has an argument for everything I say. She is going to be the one to do me in, I can just feel it.
